Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada to parents of Portuguese descent. Throughout his childhood, his parents taught him the importance of a strict work ethic. Furtado spent eight years working with his mother as a maid at the hotel. Growing up, the singer learned the guitar and began writing his own music at the age of twelve years. She loved Mariah Carey, TLC, Jodeci, Salt N Pepa, Bell BIV DeVoe, Radiohead, Pulp, Oasis, Portishead, The Verve, U2, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Amalia Rodrigues. Thus, Furtado influences ranging from R and B, Brit-pop, and Brazilian music. After high school, Furtado moved to Toronto, Canada, hoping to continue his musical career. Day, she worked at an alarm. At night, she focused on the music scene. She even created a hip-hop duo with his friend by the name of Nelstar. One night while in the club, Furtado met two members of the Canadian group, Philosopher Kings. She met Gerald Eaton and Brian Wess. The boy was very impressed and requested a demonstration. He was quickly signed by DreamWorks. 

In the young age of 21, Furtado released her first album in autumn 2000. album Whoa Nelly!, received much praise. The song "I'm Like A Bird" and "Disable Radio" went very well. In spring 2001, the young star began her first tour of the United States meant. Later that same year she received four Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year "I'm like a bird." He received a Grammy for Best Female Pop Performance for "I'm like a bird." Furtado then toured with U2. Later, she called Tour Moby, Moby area: one tour. In addition, she received a Canadian Juno Award for Best New Solo Artist and Best Song of 2000. 

In early 2003, Furtado became a mom for the first time. In November 2003, she published her highly anticipated sophomore album Folklore. The album is a mixture of country, Pop, Electronica, Trip-Hop, R and B and funk. Two noted tracks "One Trick Pony" and "real (say, What You Want)". The album was welcomed by critics as a slight disappointment compared to Whoa Nelly!
